NamWater’s latest N$1-billion investment in four major water projects is being hailed as a critical political move to address the stark realities of Namibia’s water crisis.
With only 87% of the population currently accessing potable water, the government is under pressure to close the gap and deliver on its promises of equitable resource distribution.
Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein, emphasized the strategic importance of these projects, which span Henties Bay, Ondangwa, Eenhana, and Rundu, stating, “This water supply infrastructure is a lifeline for the Oshana and Oshikoto regions.”
The stakes are high, and the political implications of success or failure could resonate across the nation.
From the N$15 million Henties Bay pipeline replacement to the N$665 million Rundu Water Treatment Plant extension, NamWater is betting big on these projects to not only improve public health but also solidify the government’s standing in the eyes of the people.
NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata expressed confidence that these initiatives would “enhance public health, support economic activities, and improve the quality of life for all Namibians.”
