Botswana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Lemogang Kwape, has lauded Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector for its resilience and capacity-building efforts, despite significant challenges.
During a recent visit, Dr. Kwape expressed interest in exploring regional integration opportunities to enhance economic growth and investment between the two nations.
Highlighting Zimbabwe’s notable achievements in wheat and milk production, Dr. Kwape acknowledged the country’s progress toward self-sufficiency and surplus production.
He emphasized Botswana’s stable and peaceful environment, positioning it as an attractive destination for investors.
Dr. Kwape assured potential investors of the safety and security of their investments in Botswana.
The visit aimed to identify opportunities for regional integration, with a focus on the manufacturing sector.
Dr. Kwape discussed potential collaborations between Botswana and Zimbabwe, including initiatives in citrus production and manufacturing investments.
He urged Schweppes to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Botswana, aligning with the government’s goal of fostering a multisectoral economy.
Sekai Kuvarika, CEO of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries, praised Zimbabwe’s manufacturing capabilities and encouraged Botswana to tap into its growth potential.
She noted Zimbabwe’s long-standing experience in the sector, making it an ideal partner for expansion into the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and the broader African market.
Kuvarika also emphasized the importance of trade facilitation, partnerships, and investments to fully harness the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The visit to Schweppes Holdings Africa Limited, a leading manufacturer and distributor of beverages under license from Coca-Cola, highlighted the potential for regional collaboration and economic growth.
