The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has injected an additional GHC151 million into the healthcare system, a move seen as critical to averting a potential health crisis.
The funds, released on August 17, 2024, are aimed at settling outstanding claims for higher-tier healthcare providers up to March 2024 and lower-tier facilities up to April 2024.
This disbursement is part of a broader strategy to maintain the efficiency and sustainability of healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, the Acting Chief Executive of NHIA, emphasized the importance of this funding in a statement, highlighting the Authority’s commitment to healthcare providers.
“The NHIA has acknowledged the crucial role healthcare providers play in the success of the NHIS and has pledged to maintain a robust partnership with facilities,” Dr. Aboagye stated.
The NHIA’s move is seen as a vital step in strengthening the healthcare system amidst growing concerns over delayed payments and their impact on service delivery.
The NHIA has also extended its gratitude to healthcare providers for their unwavering dedication in delivering quality services to citizens, despite the challenges.
The Authority reassured stakeholders of its ongoing engagement to address concerns and ensure the continued effectiveness of the healthcare system.
This financial intervention is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery nationwide, reinforcing the NHIA’s role in safeguarding the health of the nation.
