President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the newly rehabilitated Bolgatanga Regional Hospital in the Upper East Region, a project set to transform healthcare delivery in the area.
The $52 million facility, funded through a $20 million concessional loan from the Saudi Fund for Development and an additional $32 million for infrastructure and equipment, aims to significantly enhance medical services in the region and beyond.
Addressing the ceremony, President Akufo-Addo emphasized, “Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen, and it is the responsibility of government to ensure that the exercise of this right is not just theoretical, but, more importantly, practical.”
The President highlighted his administration’s broader healthcare initiatives, including the ongoing Agenda 111, which seeks to construct 111 district hospitals across the country.
He also addressed the critical need to attract and retain healthcare workers in rural areas, urging the Ministry of Health to finalize an incentive package.
The commissioning of the hospital is a significant milestone, with over 200,000 medical personnel recruited since 2017 and a 69% expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) under his administration.
President Akufo-Addo also expressed his gratitude to the Saudi Fund for Development and urged the Bolgatanga community to support the hospital and its workers.
