President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Mohammed Bello-Koko from his position as the managing director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and appointed Abubakar Dantsoho as his successor.
Bello-Koko, who was appointed as acting MD in May 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari and confirmed in February 2022, saw his tenure cut short before the end of the usual five-year term.
Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, announced the change on Friday, adding that Tinubu has also appointed former Senator Adedayo Adeyeye as the chairman of the NPA board.
Who is Abubakar Dantsoho?
Abubakar Dantsoho, the new NPA MD, holds a Doctorate degree in Maritime Technology from Liverpool John Moores University and a Master’s degree in International Transport from Cardiff University.
He has previously served in several roles within the NPA, including Assistant General Manager, Technical Assistant to the Managing Director, Port Manager of Onne Port, and Principal Manager of Tariff & Billing.
Ngelale highlighted Dantsoho’s extensive experience in maritime management as crucial for his new role.
Adedayo Adeyeye, a seasoned lawyer, journalist, and former Minister of State for Works, has been described as bringing valuable expertise to the NPA board.
