The CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, has addressed circulating misinformation regarding the health insurance policy for foreign visitors.
“Please disregard the misinformation on the costings of foreign visitors’ insurance ranging from $45 to $270,” Dr. Aboagye stated emphatically, clarifying that no decision has been made by the NHIA Executive Management or the Board about the future of the National Non-resident Visitors Health Insurance policy.
Dr. Aboagye further explained that the policy, which was developed in 2023 and launched in February 2024, predates his tenure as CEO.
“I am also yet to receive any report by any committee that was set up before my assumption of office on this policy, and if any, the details,” he added.
This statement seeks to quell any confusion about his involvement or knowledge regarding the specifics of the policy and its potential implementation.
Despite the NHIA Act 852 mandating the NHIA to ensure non-residents have health insurance, Dr. Aboagye confirmed that the Authority has not finalized any details for such an implementation.
He emphasized that any proposal would require extensive processes, including cabinet and parliamentary approvals and stakeholder engagements.
“The start date of 1st July 2024 is false, and I have no idea of such a proposed date,” Dr. Aboagye concluded, urging the public to await official communications for accurate information.
