Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Eng Festus K Ng’eno has this morning hosted an Italian Government delegation led by Undersecretary Sen. Gaudio Barbaro and the country’s ambassador to Kenya H.E Roberto Natali.
The PS and the visiting delegation discussed a wide array of subjects including climate finance, energy transion and the outcomes of the inaugural Africa Climate Summit as well as support to operalization of the summit’s secretariat in Nairobi.
PS Ng’eno expressed gratitude to the Italian government for its continued support for the restoration of Cherangany Hills Forest ecosystem which he said will enhance livelihoods of host communities.
On energy transion, PS Ng’eno noted that 93% of Kenya’s grid electricity is from renewable sources including solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric with plans to transition to 100% renewable energy by the year 2030.
The PS was joined in the meeting by NetFund CEO Samson Toniok, Climate Change Director Dr Pacifica Ogola and Head of MEAs Linda Kosgei among other senior Ministry officials.
