The Volta River Authority (VRA) has undertaken a comprehensive renovation of the Kaleo D/A Primary School in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Upper West Region.
Situated between the Authority’s two solar power plants at Kaleo, the school previously grappled with inadequate facilities, hindering effective teaching and learning.
The initiative, part of VRA’s corporate social responsibility, saw the provision of essential amenities and the refurbishment of infrastructure, including classroom doors, desks, water facilities, and sanitation units, among others.
At the handover ceremony, Ing. Abdul Noor Wahab, representing VRA, emphasized the strategic importance of addressing the school’s infrastructure deficits.
He underscored the collaborative effort with local authorities to identify and rectify deficiencies, aiming to enhance the overall educational experience.
Sophia Sabogu, the Head Teacher, expressed profound gratitude for the transformation, foreseeing its positive impact on both students and the community.
The event, graced by key dignitaries including the District Chief Executive and Regional Education Director, marked a significant milestone in VRA’s commitment to sustainable community development through education.
Works undertaken at the school include:
• Replacement of classroom doors as well as that of staff room and headmistress’ office
• Supply of school desks for children and teachers
• Construction of borehole and overhead tank
• Repair of kitchen building
• Construction of toilet facilities for both teachers /students
• Painting of the school
• Provision of tables and chairs for library
• Tiling of headmistress office and library
• Replacement of school windows
• Supply of cupboards
• Supply of ceiling fans and lights
