The approval of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Regulations, 2024 by the National Assembly is a significant step towards enhancing Kenya’s cybersecurity landscape.
What’s the impact of these regulations on cybersecurity?
A National Cybersecurity Operation Center becomes the nerve center for monitoring, detecting, preventing, responding to, investigating, and attributing cyber threats and crimes in Kenya.
The center’s collaboration with incident response teams and other cybersecurity operation centers facilitates real-time information sharing, bolstering our ability to detect and respond to threats effectively.
Following this development, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, highlited that the Cybersecurity Operations will leverage threat intelligence from various sources to enhance its readiness and response capabilities.
Owners of critical information infrastructures are mandated to conduct annual cyber-risk assessments and business impact analyses, ensuring proactive measures are in place to safeguard against cyber threats.
