The Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has exceeded expectations by collecting GH¢82.295 billion in 2023, surpassing the previous year’s figure of GH¢53.444 billion.
This contribution formed part of the GRA’s total mobilization of GH¢113.06 billion for the fiscal year, with the DTRD’s achievement exceeding its target by 7.2 percent.
The Division has set a target of GH¢111 billion, aiming to contribute to a total revenue target of GH¢170 billion for the year.
Commissioner of DTRD, Edward Apenteng Gyamerah, made this announcement during the 2024 management retreat held in Takoradi, themed ‘Tax Transparency and Certainty: The GRA Way’, where strategies were discussed to consolidate the division’s role in domestic revenue mobilization.
At the retreat, Gyamerah attributed the division’s success in 2023 to various initiatives that broadened the tax base, including the implementation of policies such as e-VAT, Gaming and Betting Tax, and Voluntary Tax Disclosure.
These efforts, along with technological interventions and collaborations with public and private institutions, facilitated revenue mobilization through data-led compliance management frameworks.
Gyamerah emphasized the importance of a performance management culture that enhances staff accountability and productivity, highlighting the division’s commitment to voluntary tax compliance through new technologies and supportive tax policies.
“The DTRD could not have achieved this milestone without your dedication and commitment. You remained true to the call despite the challenges we faced as a group. Be guided by our common vision of being a world-class revenue administration, recognised for professionalism, integrity and excellence. I am confident that we will continue with this momentum in 2024. I look forward to working with all of you in this new financial year,” he said.
