The County Government of Nakuru under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika is making headway in ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all as enshrined in article 42 of the Kenyan Constitution (2010).
The Department of water, Environment, energy climate change and Natural resources headed by CECM Dr Nelson Maara alongside Chief Officer for Environment Kennedy Mungai held a meeting with waste service providers under Nakuru solid waste management Association organization ( NASWAMA).
The meeting aimed at sensitizing the members on the importance of maintaining a clean environment, Inculcate sustainable waste management skills and create harmony in offering quality service to the residents.
“Nakuru County is aiming towards making Nakuru City and the county at large, one of the cleanest in the region. A cleaner and healthier environment is best achieved through sensitization and education exercises” Maara said.
Solid waste management has so far generated revenue to the County Government and created job opportunities, while providing a lasting solution to the biggest landfill in Nakuru, Gioto dumpsite.
In attendance were Ag. Director for Environment Grace Karanja, County Environment Officers among other dignitaries.
