Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, the Governor of Mombasa County, recently hosted a strategic meeting with fellow Coast Governors Fatuma Achani (Kwale), Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi), and Issa Timamy (Lamu).
The gathering, held at the Mombasa Beach Hotel, soughted to discuss key initiatives for the revitalization of tourism in the region. Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Dr. Alfred Mutua, joined the discussion, engaging in talks centered around collaborative efforts to boost the tourism industry.
Governor Nassir expressed his advocacy for the adoption of the Open Skies policy, which would facilitate direct international flights to land in Mombasa.
While acknowledging positive steps taken in this direction, he emphasized the need for continued progress.
The governors stressed the importance of supporting the private sector in upgrading business conferencing facilities to attract more business tourism to Mombasa.
The call for a more inclusive approach by the National Government in managing funds related to tourism, recognizing it as a devolved function, was also highlighted during the meeting.
Kenya Tourism Board Chairman Francis Gichaba and Mombasa CECM for Tourism Mohammed Osman were among the notable attendees at the event.
