The Botswana Power Corporation has commence an inspection of power lines using state-of-the-art drone technology.
This initiative, conducted in partnership with the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two entities.
The primary objective of this drone-enabled inspection is to proactively identify faults and defects, ultimately streamlining preventive maintenance efforts.
The implementation of drone technology provides the corporation with increased efficiency in monitoring the power network and expediting the restoration of power supply following any line faults.
The pilot inspection program, slated to run until December 22, 2023, will cover key areas including Mogoditshane Block 7, Lesirane, Tsolamosese, Mokolodi 1 and 2, Mokolodi Game Reserve, Sentihane, Mogoditshane, Mamelodi, Maulane, Senthumole, Part of Nkoyaphiri, Mogoditshane Smodern, Part of Block 6, Mogoditshane Industrial, Gabane, and Tloaneng.
The public is reassured and advised not to panic if they encounter drones in operation along the power lines in the specified areas.
