The County Government of Nakuru led by H.E. Governor Susan Kihika is committed to nurturing and developing talents.
In this regard the Chief Officer in charge of Youth and Sports, Alex Maina visited a taekwondo club in Flamingo Ward that hosts close to 80 youngsters between the ages of 4 and 18 every day, helping kids from the neighbourhood stay out of drugs and crime.
According to the head coach Mr Joseph Ogolla, the club which he started 12 years ago has seen close to 500 youths learn taekwondo and kickboxing, with a good number joining the disciplined forces whilst others have been called up to the National team.
His current team participated in the Kenya Open championships in Kisumu last month and brought home 6 medals – 3 gold, 2 silvers, and a bronze finishing 3rd overall in the 17-team tourney.
The Chief Officer congratulated the team and promised to work with the club to develop taekwondo and kickboxing in the county by organizing a tournament consisting of all the mixed martial arts teams within Nakuru.
This will set the pace for realising dreams amongst youth across the county for them to embrace sporting activities and deter them from engaging in crime activities, drug abuse and early Pregnancies amongst others.
