His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi has commended the Kenya High Commissioner to Botswana Mr. Mohamed Shidiye, for his service and humanity, as well as the excellent work he has done, in bonding Botswana and Kenya.
Speaking at a farewell Courtesy Call by His Excellency Mohamed Shidiye, who has served in Botswana for the last 5 years, Dr. Masisi said Kenya has been a reliable and dependable ally, in terms of training Human Resources and providing Human Capital for the advancement of Botswana’s Development.
He also thanked Kenya for it’s political support to the positions Botswana has held and even the voting for United Nations.
He however expressed concerns on the differences the two countries have particularly on wildlife trade, specifically on ivory, and he hopes that they can in the future narrow down these differences, adding that he will try to convince President William Ruto that the burning of Ivory is a flawed policy.
Dr. Masisi said he hoped that Mr. Shidiye can communicate to the Kenyan leadership the challenges faced by Southern Africa with respect to wildlife, particularly elephants, their numbers and the destruction they cause to the environment, human-wildlife conflict, as well as the possibility an economy being driven by trading in products from elephants.
