The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang has emphasized the significance of pensions as the best guarantee for workers’ future financial security.
Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang called on self-employed individuals to join the SSNIT pension scheme, encouraging them to take this proactive step to secure a more prosperous life in their retirement years.
This advice was part of a nationwide tour aimed at motivating those who hadn’t yet joined the Tier One pension scheme to do so.
Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang highlighted that a lack of guaranteed income during old age could be a source of great hardship, making it all the more crucial to sign up for a pension scheme.
He emphasized that the scheme not only provided a safety net for retirees but also offered benefits to the children of contributors.
Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang stressed that extending the scheme to informal sector workers would ensure they enjoyed the same benefits as their formal sector counterparts, making it accessible to all Ghanaians interested in contributing.
