The Minister for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honourable Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has emerged the Public Sector Global ‘Minister of the week’. He is our minister of the week from the month July 16th to 22nd July, 2023.
Assuming office in January 2021, Dr. Awal has led to the sustainable growth and development of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture as well as contributing enormously to GDP through effective and efficient use of policies, plans, programs and projects.
In October 2022, according to reports, the tourism sector is identified as the third largest contributor to GDP.
In line with Dr. Awal’s commitment to make tourism sector a veritable tool for economic transformation, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has currently seen a total turnover after its renovation and modernization. This came a year after the sod was cut for work to commence on the project.
The GH¢30million modernised Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park recently commissioned has not only been renovated, but it has also been completely modernised to befit the status of the final resting place of the man who led Ghanaians to independence in 1957, and became Ghana’s first President, the justly-celebrated Kwame Nkrumah.
Also, Dr. Awal’s frantic efforts and active decisions in the industry led to the launch of one of government’s flagship projects in the sector, dubbed “Destination Ghana”, in London, United Kingdom in April 2022. The “Destination Ghana” London event is the first in a series of activities of the “Destination Ghana” project, which has, at its core, the objective of inviting and welcoming the rest of the world to visit Ghana.
It is worth noting that the aforementioned achievements, amongst many other projects attest palpably to Dr. Mohammed Awal’s unwavering commitment as a leader who has the vision to see the improvement of the entrepreneurial and business ecosystem in Ghana and Africa through trade and investment, tourism, arts, and culture.
