The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Health in Kenya, Honourable Susan Nakhumicha Wafula has emerged the Public Sector Global ‘Minister of the week’. She is our minister of the week from the month July 9th to 15th July, 2023.
Susan Nakhumicha Wafula is an esteemed Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Health in Kenya, who assumed office in 2022. With a background in supply chains, Susan has consistently delivered exceptional performance and has been instrumental in the successful evolution of her ministry.
Prior to her current role, she gained valuable experience by serving in various supply and logistics positions.
Notably, she excelled as the Manager of Procurement and Logistics at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, where she effectively utilized her skills.
Additionally, Susan managed supply chains for the renowned Global Programme for Research and Training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
Her impressive track record and dedication to her field makes her a true asset to the healthcare sector in Kenya.
In June 2023 she publicly commended the Kenya Demographic Health Survey (KDHS) for the 2022 Main Report which according to her has brought to light significant improvements in health indicators and served as a guiding tool for health policy decisions. Cabinet Secretary for Health Nakhumicha S. Wafula commended the findings during the launch event by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, emphasizing their role in shaping interventions and advancing universal health coverage.
She has also leveraged the advances in globalization, collaborating with national, international among other bodies in order to strengthen the sector in the country.
In June 2023, The Ministry led by the Nakhumicha Susan formed a strategic partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to address health challenges and enhance healthcare service delivery. The partnership focuses on key areas such as health products and technologies, family health, strategic programs for HIV, TB, and malaria, primary health and health financing, health systems strengthening, and partnerships with the private sector.

Nakhumicha Susan, the CS Health, stressed this remarkable milestone, emphasizing the transformative power of digitizing government services.
Through the e-Citizen Portal, citizens gain easy access to vital healthcare services and information, paving the way for a revolutionized healthcare delivery system that ensures timely and convenient access for all.
The portal encompasses a wide range of programs and services, such as the National Health Record, Electronic Claims Management System, Point of Care system, Digital Kiosks, Vigilance System, JALI Interactive System, and more.
The e-Citizen Portal hosts an extensive range of programs and services in the health sector, offering Kenyans greater control over their healthcare journey and the ability to manage their health records while engaging in interactive sessions for instant feedback.
