The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, in collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), has commenced the recruitment process for 4,000 unskilled tree nursery attendants as part of the ‘Green Army’ initiative.
These recruits will play a crucial role in supporting the national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program, which aims to plant 15 billion trees.
The Green Army tree nursery attendants will be responsible for propagating seedlings, participating in tree planting activities, and providing extension services.
During a recent visit to Marsabit County, Environment, Climate Change and Forestry CS Soipan Tuya emphasized the importance of youth involvement in the initiative, urging eligible individuals to apply for the positions and contribute to tree growing efforts.
The recruitment exercise will prioritize local applicants, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Interested candidates can find application details on the KFS website and at forest stations nationwide. Applications will be accepted until July 22, 2023.
The hired tree nursery attendants will be employed on a one-year contract, subject to renewal based on funding availability and satisfactory performance.
They will be stationed at the 300 KFS tree nurseries across the country, engaging in various tasks such as sowing seeds, potting seedlings, and nurturing wildings.
The monthly wage for these positions will range from Kshs 8,613 to Kshs 16,401, depending on duty stations.
Additionally, successful applicants will be eligible for National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) coverage.
This recruitment drive aligns with the government’s commitment to revitalizing the forestry sector and recognizing it as a vital economic driver.
