Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Mr. Gitonga Mugambi has chaired a meeting with senior officials from the department’s State Agencies and representatives of the Office of the Head of Public Service.
The meeting focused on the Terms of Reference of the National Tree Growing Restoration Programme for Committees, Technical Teams, and Secretaries.
The primary agenda was to discuss the governance structure that will facilitate the prompt implementation of the Presidential directive to plant 15 billion trees within 10 years and increase Kenya’s tree cover from the current 12.3% to 30% by 2032.
The meeting, attended by CS Hon. Soipan Tuya CBS and senior staff of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, aimed to formulate strategies for the successful execution of the ministry’s goals.
The heads of State Agencies, including Principal Secretary Eng Ng’eno from the Environment and Climate Change sector and Mr. Mugambi from the Forestry sector, were also present. This gathering served as a platform to discuss the Ministry’s performance contract for the fiscal year 2023/24.
With an emphasis on environmental conservation and combating climate change, the Ministry is taking concrete steps towards achieving its objectives and ensuring sustainable development in Kenya.
