President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the immediate retirement of the Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, and the Comptroller-General of Customs, along with the appointment of their replacements. Furthermore, the President has dissolved the governing boards of all federal government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies.
The retirement of the affected officers, including the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff, was announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. New appointments include the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff, National Security Adviser, and Acting Inspector-General of Police.
Various military officers were also appointed for roles at the Presidential Villa. In addition, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Special Advisers and Senior Assistants in different capacities, as well as an Acting Comptroller General of Customs.
The appointed officials will serve in their positions pending confirmation according to the Nigerian Constitution. The dissolution of governing boards was carried out in the exercise of constitutional powers and in the public interest.
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been tasked with dissolving and reconstituting the managements and boards of the agencies and parastatals.
Until new boards are constituted, Chief Executive Officers are directed to refer matters requiring board attention to the President through the Permanent Secretaries of their supervisory ministries. Compliance with this directive is expected from all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, effective from June 16, 2023.
