Former Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has been officially appointed as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Services (NIS), succeeding Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru.
Haji took the oath of office in a brief ceremony at State House, Nairobi, presided over by President William Ruto.
The event, attended by Haji’s family and senior government officials, lasted less than 20 minutes.
During the swearing-in, President Ruto urged Haji to prioritize the development of intelligence services to address various challenges, including terrorism and economic constraints.
Haji’s nomination was approved by Members of Parliament, and he assumes the position after the successful tenure of Kameru, who held the post for more than eight years.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, President Ruto praised the NIS as an institution that has contributed significantly to making informed decisions regarding national security, counterterrorism, and organized crime.
He expressed confidence in Haji’s ability to enhance the institution’s service to the nation and urged him to tackle the diverse challenges facing the country, including conflicts arising from climate change, resource disputes, and economic constraints.
Haji’s appointment was lauded by the parliamentary intelligence committee, which commended his expertise in administrative roles and affirmed his qualifications and experience to lead the NIS.
