Kenya has been elected as a member of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) Executive Council, granting the country a prominent role in shaping international tax programs.
Representing Kenya on the global tax body executive council is the Acting Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Rispah Simiyu. With a two-year term starting from 2023, Kenya will actively advocate for the interests and positions of non-American countries within CIAT.
The election of Kenya to the CIAT Executive Council was initiated by the nomination of the country by non-American members of CIAT.
This decision highlights the global reputation and endorsement of the Kenya Revenue Authority in tax administration matters. As a member of the executive council, the KRA Acting Commissioner General will participate in the formulation and implementation of key tax programs on behalf of CIAT members.
CIAT, a public non-profit international organization founded in 1967, aims to support the modernization and technological advancement of tax administrations across its 42 member countries. Through activities such as international engagements, tax studies, technical cooperation, and information technology, CIAT promotes collaboration and knowledge exchange in taxation.

Kenya has been a member of CIAT since 2006 and has utilized this membership to strengthen its domestic revenue mobilization efforts and enhance tax and customs procedures.
With this new appointment, Kenya is poised to play a crucial role in shaping international tax policies and strategies, contributing to the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its tax administration and revenue generation capabilities.
