Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jim Yonazi, has announced plans to make Tanzania a knowledge center for agriculture and fisheries in East Africa.
According to Dr. Yonazi, the government’s efforts in improving the two sectors will help to acquire this status.
He made the announcement while visiting the Agriculture and Fisheries Development Program (AFDP) in Morogoro Region.
Dr. Yonazi added that the AFDP program would help to improve infrastructure to ensure animal husbandry becomes part of the national income and contributes to the country’s development. Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Fatma Mwassa, commended the Prime Minister’s Office for bringing the AFDP project to the region, stating that the area had successfully proven to be a potential area for agriculture and fishing due to its fertile land.
With Tanzania’s huge investments in agriculture and fishing sectors, the country is poised to become East Africa’s learning center for these sectors.
