Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur paid unannounced working visits to two (2) Assemblies in the Eastern Region namely Suhum Municipal and Ayensuano District Assemblies.
The visit was to provide the Head of Service with first-hand information on the performance of work by staff in these Assemblies.
The Head of Service was accompanied by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Peter Essiem-Asante and a Public Affairs Officer of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).
The mode of engagement at both Assemblies combined an address by the Head of Service followed by open fora which afforded staff the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on issues of concerns.
Among the issues raised by the Head of Service included his displeasure on lateness to work by staff and admonished that the Biometric Clocking System (BCS) should be reintroduced to curb the situation.
Meanwhile he reiterated that the LGS would not condone indiscipline among staff and assured staff found culpable would be sanctioned to deter others.
Dr. Arthur urged that there was the need for staff to adhere to the rudiments of the Service and make it reputable.
He admonished them to discharge their responsibilities at work with high professionalism since the success of the Assemblies depended on it.
He called for harmonious working relationships among staff and the promotion of team work for a healthy working environment.
Issues raised during open fora discussions revealed gaps in working conditions of staff; upgrade and conversions, staff postings and salaries for which the Head of Service assured Management would expedite actions to address them.
