In a bid to boost Tanzania’s marine tourism, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is set to launch a tourist boat on March 14, 2023 to take tourists on cruises on the Indian Ocean.
According to Tanzania’s minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Mohamed Mchengerwa, the boat, which has been named Tawa Sea Cruiser, and which has a 50-passenger capacity, was indigenously built by the Tanzanian Songoro Marine Transport Ltd Company.
Providing more insight, Mchengerwa proclaimed the boat to be among the state-of-the-art boats owned by the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) with modern equipment to offer tourists a memorable tour.
Outfitted with modern technologies which include special telescopic lenses that can allow tourists to spot exotic sea creatures from the comfort of their seats, the Tawa Sea Cruiser is part of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s initiative for the tourism sector to reach five million tourists and bring in revenue of $6 million by 2025.
Ahead of the launch of the Tawa Sea Cruiser, an approximated 400 tourists have arrived in Tanzania by ship, many of whom have come to experience Tanzania’s marine life up close.
According to Mchengerwa, the country owning its own tourist boat will help the sector grow and promote local tourism so people from different regions of Tanzania will be able to experience the various, marine tourist attractions that call Tanzania home.
