Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Tuesday March 7, 2023 organise a Public Participation Workshop on the Draft Net-Metering and Solar Water Heating Regulations 2022.
The workshop held at 𝐒𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐰𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 – 𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 targets to get stakeholders input on the draft regulations, which are geared towards providing a framework for prosumers to bank excess energy on the grid thus promote the uptake of renewable energy through net metering. As well as streamline the manufacture, importation, design, installation and solar water heating systems in Kenya.
The regulations once adopted will promote the uptake of renewable energy and streamline the manufacture, importation, design, installation and solar water heating systems in Kenya.
Accordingly, EPRA invites residents of Eldoret & the surrounding counties, consumer groups to a Public Participation Workshop.
EPRA Director General, Mr. Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, OGW in his speech read by the Director, Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Oketch, PhD said EPRA developed the net metering Regulations in line with Section 162 of The Energy Act, 2019.
“Net metering will make electricity affordable, create employment, reduce power losses in the distribution system, improve voltage regulation and also reduce greenhouse gas emissions-a key factor to climate change mitigation,” said Kiptoo.
Commenting on the draft Energy (Solar Water Heating) Regulations, 2022, Mr. Kiptoo noted that the regulations once adopted shall ensure safety and quality in the solar water heating value chain.
He called on all stakeholders to provide comments to help EPRA develop a robust regulatory framework that serves the industry.
“The feedback received will go a long way to ensure effective frameworks on net metering and solar water heating in our Country,” added the DG.
