The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has urged China to grant Ghana an exemplary debt treatment solution.
The minister made this appeal to the delegation as they are in Ghana to engage Government, following a request for the restructuring of the country’s US$1.9 billion debt owed to China.
The delegation according to reports are in in Accra on a three- day mission, ahead of Ghana’s upcoming mission to China, all in line with ongoing negotiations for a sovereign debt treatment.
The meeting therefore led to an amounted data shared between governments, discussions being held at the technical level, on the parameters of an effective debt treatment.
Seeking among other reliefs,the Ghanaian government mentioned an extension of the moratorium on debt servicing; an extension of maturities; and lower interest rates.
Addressing the delegation, Mr. Ofori-Atta commended the Chinese administration for their long-standing cooperation and support for Ghana.
He emphasized the necessity to maintain and develop that relationship while working toward a superb debt treatment solution that might serve as a model for China’s future interactions with other African nations.
