The Inspector-General of Ghana’s Police Service, Dr. George Akuffo has expressed dissatisfaction with the research conducted by Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) together with other stakeholders, placing the Ghana Police as the top most corrupt public institution in the country.
According to him, the research is aimed at finding solutions to problems thus it was the researchers should have engaged the Police service to take onboard actions they are not taking to meet those problem.
He therefore, acknowledged the fact that the service has long been facing such problems and have been implementing measure to discourage the act.
“We assume that such a research is aimed at finding solutions for the country’s corruption-related problems. The Service has long acknowledged that some of its personnel may be involved in some corrupt practices and we continue to implement measures to discourage such conduct. It probably would have been helpful if you had engage us to take on board what is being done by the Service and incorporate this into your findings.” he said.
The IGP however applauded GSS for attempting such tense topic in Ghana.
“The Police Service would like to commend your three institutions the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Commission on Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for your maiden research on corruption which, according to you was aimed at collecting evidence-based information on forms of corruption.” He added
