Mauritius’s Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr. Deepak Balgobin, has been declared as Africa Public Sector magazine’s “Minister of the Week”.
Mr. Deepak Balgobin, emerged as the APS Magazine’s minister of the week following his tremendous and laudable achievement in terms of growth in the Information Technology and Communication sector, research, innovation, and digital development of governmental services, despite the difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of the projects that have been carried out during the course of the year include but not limited to:
- Digitalisation of Governmental services (MoRendezVous, MauPass, MoKloud, Certification Authority MauSign)
- Launching of nanosatellite MIRSAT1
- promulgation of the Mauritius Emerging Technologies Council Bill and Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act 2021
- finalisation of the National Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Strategy 2022-2024
- Launching of 5G
- and collaboration with Facebook/Meta and Tiktok.
Hon. Deepak Balgobin holds an MBA from Anglia Ruskin University, UK, a BSc (Hons) Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of Technology, Mauritius and a Diploma in Hotel Management at Shatec, Singapore.
Prior to being Minister of ICT, he held key positions in different organisations in the public as well as the private sector including Chairman of the Mauritius Housing Company (MHC), Executive Director of the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) and a fruitful career in Tourism and Hospitality Management as director of Human Resources both locally and abroad.
As a young Member of Parliament, Deepak Balgobin is also a strong advocate for community awareness. Born in Mare la Chaux, he dedicates most of his time in his constituency, while being active in social and cultural activities, and he is committed to work for a better Mauritius.
Africa Public Sector Magazine’s Minister of the Week is targeted at showcasing the achievements of ministers across the African continent; by promoting their good works, right policies and exceptional leadership in various ministries across Africa.
It’s also aimed at inspiring public service officials to be competitive and promote efficient service delivery for African citizens.
