As part of the activities earmarked by the Nigerian Navy and Eastern Naval Command to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, The Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral DA Adeniran ably represented by the Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base Bonny, Navy Capt KO Oguntuga and the Commander Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital Calabar, Navy Commander UI Okeke successfully conducted a medical outreach for the indigenes of Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The event, which took place on 28 May 2019 at the famous Ibanise Hall, Akiama Road, Bonny Island was well attended by both the young and old from across the host community.
Speaking at the event, the Commander FOB Bonnyemphasized the mandate from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, on the need for Civil-Military Relations to be strengthened for the armed forces and the Navy in particular, especially in her operations to combat criminalities in riverine areas of the country.
Captain Oguntuga also stressed the need for host communities to support the activities of the military in areas of intelligence gathering while the militaryin turn must strive to win the hearts and minds of the communities where they operate. The medical rhapsody which was preceeded by a courtesy call on the Brown House Family at the Amadabo of Finima Palace, Bonny Island had in attendance, High Chiefs, Members of Council and Prominent Women of Finima and Bonny Kingdom.
Also in attendance at the outreach was the Commanding Officer 146 Battalion, Lt Col OG Olayinka, the Executive Officer FOB Bonny, Commander SK Haruna, Senior Officers from Forward Operating Base Bonnyand Eastern Naval Command, friends and well-wishers of the Navy and members of the community.
