Kenya has once again hit the global sports headlines with sensational performances in different sports over the weekend.
The Kenya rugby 7s team Shujaa, won the first leg of the 2024 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Challenger series in Dubai with a tenacious performance. Shujaa won the cup final, defeating Chile 12–5, and took home the trophy. With 20 points, they lead the standings after five wins and one loss during the competition.
As the Challenger Series heads to Montevideo, Uruguay for the second of three rounds (from March 8–10), it indicates that Kenya is in the lead.
Kenya will need to continue its winning streak since the top four teams in the standings at the conclusion of the third round in May will compete in a promotion-relegation tournament alongside the bottom four teams from the Sevens World Series at the Grand Final in Madrid.
Shujaa lead the Challenger Series with 20 points while the lioness are second in their category with 18 points.
Elsewhere, Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich became the first woman to run the 10 Kilometers race in under 29 minutes when she obliterated the womens’s 10km record by running a stunning 28.46 in Valencia, Spain.
