The Volta River Authority (VRA) has successfully restored the water supply system in Aveyime, a community in the North Tongu District.
This vital endeavor forms part of the VRA’s Emergency Preparedness Plan initiated in May 2023, aiming to alleviate the impact of the controlled spill of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on local communities.
In addition to restoring water supply systems, the VRA daily sends clean potable water tankers to communities with disrupted water access and provides sachet water for drinking.
The restoration project included relocating the raw water intake pumps at Aveyime to higher ground and constructing a pump protection shed with power panels integrated into the water treatment system.
This initiative aacoording to the entity is a crucial step in providing the community with access to clean drinking, cooking, and bathing water.
VRA affirmed its commitment to easing the hardships faced by flood victims and plans to expand its water supply restoration efforts to other affected areas.
By prioritizing clean water supply, VRA indicated that it is actively working to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases in these affected communities, emphasizing its dedication to addressing essential human needs beyond the distribution of relief items and medicines.
