Tanzania’s Minister for Finance, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, has reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to its strategic partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), emphasizing the bank’s pivotal role in funding transformative projects across key economic sectors.
The announcement came following the 60th Annual Meeting of the AfDB Board of Governors and the 51st Meeting of the African Development Fund (ADF) Board of Governors in Abidjan.
Dr. Nchemba highlighted the significant impact of AfDB-funded initiatives in infrastructure, energy, water, agriculture, and social development.
Tanzania is currently implementing 25 strategic projects—21 led by the government in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, and four in the private sector—valued at $3.54 billion.

Notable projects include the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Dodoma city ring roads, and Msalato International Airport in the Dodoma region.
“These projects are set to drive significant economic transformation,” Dr. Nchemba stated, noting their alignment with Tanzania’s national priorities, the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Under the African Development Fund’s 17th replenishment cycle (ADF-17), Tanzania aims to access additional financial resources, including credit guarantees, to support major infrastructure developments.
Dr. Nchemba expressed optimism about continued collaboration with the AfDB to accelerate inclusive and sustainable growth for Tanzania and the broader African continent.
