The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced that it is in the final stages of deploying the Port Community System (PCS), a major step towards implementing the National Single Window Project.
Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the NPA, represented by Engr. Ibrahim Abba, Executive Director of Engineering and Technical Services, shared this update during the World Maritime Day celebrations.
Dr. Dantsoho emphasized that the PCS is crucial for improving operational efficiency and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in global trade.
During the event, the Managing Director underscored the theme of this year’s celebration, “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” which highlights the maritime sector’s vital contributions to international trade and the economy.
“This role often comes at great exposure to risk, which we are all duty-bound to mitigate by adequately equipping the specialized sector that propels the world,” he noted, urging stakeholders to prioritize safety and commitment in their operations.
He called for a concerted effort from all industry participants to create a safer and more efficient working environment for maritime professionals.
In addition to the PCS deployment, the NPA has made strides in upgrading infrastructure to support maritime operations.
Last year, the Authority reconstructed and fully equipped the Mission to Seafarers facility in Lagos, setting it to regional best-in-class standards for seafarer support.
Dr. Dantsoho reiterated the importance of collaboration among policy framers, investors, and stakeholders to ensure that global port operations are healthier and more secure, aligning with the objectives of the World Ports Sustainability Program.
He credited the unwavering support of the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, in maximizing the opportunities presented by Nigeria’s maritime resources.
