The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Oyo/Osun Area Command, under the leadership of Dr. Ben Oramalugo, PhD, FCIA, FNIM, has achieved a significant milestone in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.
Between June 14th and August 29th, 2024, the Command collected ₦18.07 billion, comprising ₦13.31 billion in June and July and an additional ₦4.77 billion in August.
This impressive total, combined with the ₦30.66 billion collected from January to May 2024, brings the year’s revenue to ₦48.74 billion—a 2.74% increase from ₦47.41 billion in the same period of 2023.
The revenue growth is attributed to enhanced oversight, strategic partnerships, and technological upgrades that have streamlined operations and reduced congestion.
The Command has also made significant strides in anti-smuggling efforts, seizing 2,448 wraps and 11 sachets of Cannabis Sativa, valued at ₦148.93 million, and auctioning 40,915 liters of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) with a Duty Paid Value of ₦27.89 million.
These actions underscore the Command’s commitment to combating illicit trade and protecting the economy.
Dr. Oramalugo praised the support from stakeholders including the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, and other security agencies, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and technological innovation.
Looking forward, Dr. Oramalugo reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to maintaining high standards of professionalism and leveraging new technologies, in line with the NCS Act of 2023, to enhance its operations and secure economic stability.
