The Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has donated laptops to 50 students at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa.
This gesture is part of a four-year scholarship package aimed at supporting the academic endeavors of students from BOST’s host communities.
The Deputy Managing Director of BOST, Joseph Kpemka, highlighted this initiative as a corporate social responsibility effort, designed to empower academically talented but financially challenged students.
“The laptops will facilitate access to information, online research, and academic work,” Kpemka stated during the presentation ceremony.
He emphasized the company’s commitment to positively impacting society, particularly through supporting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Kpemka also mentioned that BOST aims to monitor the students’ academic progress and that those excelling in their final exams might be considered for employment opportunities at BOST, subject to available vacancies.
In addition to the laptops, BOST’s scholarship covers the tuition, accommodation fees, and a monthly stipend for the beneficiaries, who are pursuing various degree programs such as petrochemical engineering.
The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Director of Education, Catherine Biney, and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UMaT, Anthony Simmons, both expressed their gratitude to BOST for its significant contribution to education.
They encouraged the students to excel in their studies, thereby demonstrating their appreciation and ensuring the continuation of such support in the future.
