Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) CEO, Eng. Ladislaus Matindi has emerged as Public Sector Global CEO of the Week
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), Eng. Ladislaus Matindi has emerged as one of the top three Public Sector Global ‘CEOs of the week’.
Eng. Ladislaus Matindi, a seasoned aviation professional with over 30 years of experience, has been at the helm of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) as CEO since 2016. Under his leadership, ATCL has undergone significant transformation, driven by a robust turn-around strategy he developed and implemented. This strategy laid the groundwork for the company’s ongoing revitalization, positioning ATCL as a key player in the regional and international aviation markets.
Before joining ATCL, Eng. Matindi held various pivotal roles within the aviation sector, including positions at the EGNOS Africa Joint Programme Office (JPO), the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat, and the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority. His diverse background has equipped him with comprehensive expertise in aviation management and operations.
Eng. Matindi holds a master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Ukraine and an MBA in International Business from the University of Birmingham, UK.
In 2024, under Matindi’s leadership, ATCL expanded its fleet with the acquisition of a Boeing 737 Max 9, bringing the total number of aircraft to 16. This addition enhances ATCL’s capacity to connect regional and international destinations, including new routes to Dubai and London, and increased flights to Johannesburg.
Eng. Matindi also oversees ATCL’s strategic expansion, including launching direct flights to the United Arab Emirates and strengthening connections to Mumbai, Guangzhou, Johannesburg, Dubai, and London
ATCL has also entered a partnership to train pilots for Ibom Airlines in Nigeria, underscoring his commitment to capacity building in the aviation sector.
Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) ED, Chris Ndatira Mukiza has emerged as Public Sector Global CEO of the Week
The Executive Director of Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Chris Ndatira Mukiza has emerged as one of the top three Public Sector Global ‘CEOs of the week’.
Chris Ndatira Mukiza, PhD, is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in statistical production. He assumed the role of Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) in 2019, succeeding Ben Paul Mungyereza.
In his effort as a driving force in advancing statistical excellence at UBOS, he has embarked on several projects, through his analysis and established reliable statistics crucial for evidence-based planning and decision-making.
Prior to assuming his current position, Mukiza held various pivotal roles at UBOS, including Director of Macroeconomic Statistics from 2010, Director in the Executive Director’s Office from 2008-2009, and Principal Statistician from 2000 to 2007. His academic credentials include a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, a Master’s degree in Economics from Makerere University, and a Bachelor of Statistics degree from Makerere University.
Mukiza’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including the release of preliminary results from the 2024 National Population and Housing Census in June 2024. These results indicate Uganda’s population has grown to 45.9 million, an increase of 11.3 million since 2014. The data reveals that females constitute 51% of the population, with youth aged 18-30 comprising 22.7%. Notably, over 50% of the population is under the age of 17, highlighting Uganda’s youthful demographic.
In May 2024, UBOS, led by Mukiza, released the Uganda Consumer Price Index (2016/17=100), revealing a notable rise in annual inflation to 3.6 per cent from 3.2 per cent in the previous year. This increase was primarily driven by a 3.7 per cent rise in annual core inflation, notably influenced by a 6.2 per cent surge in services inflation, particularly in areas such as passenger transport and restaurant meals.
Mukiza’s contract renewal for an additional five years, supported by President Yoweri Museveni and UBOS, underscores his faith and confidence in steering UBOS towards achieving its strategic goals. His commitment to enhancing statistical production and ensuring the availability of accurate data for national planning remains unwavering. The comprehensive data collected under his leadership, including detailed urbanization figures, is set to guide future population projections and geographical updates crucial for Uganda’s development trajectory.
Botswana Oil Limited CEO, Meshack Tshekedi has emerged as Public Sector Global CEO of the Week
The Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Oil Limited, Meshack Tshekedi has emerged as one of the top three Public Sector Global ‘CEOs of the week’.
Meshack Tshekedi, appointed as the CEO of Botswana Oil Limited in June 2020, boasts over two decades of expertise spanning mining, oil, brewing, and consultancy. Holding an MSc in Engineering Management, a BSc in Chemical Engineering, and a BSc in Economics from Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA, he is well-versed in strategic leadership and operational excellence. Tshekedi’s career journey includes pivotal roles at Debswana Diamond Company, Kgalagadi Breweries, and SAB Miller Africa, where he excelled in supply chain management and corporate strategy. His tenure at BITC highlighted his commitment to advancing Botswana’s economic landscape, underscoring his role as a catalyst for growth and development. Botswana Oil has secured 90% of petroleum products importation.

The company will have exclusive rights to import 90% of the southern African nation’s fuel supply as the government seeks to reduce market volatility, according to an official.
This move will see state oil companies, importing 90% of the country’s fuel, while majority citizen-owned companies have the right to import the outstanding 10%.
