The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has clarified that there are no plans to revoke the operating licenses of Fidelity, Polaris, Wema, and Unity Banks, contrary to rumors circulating online.
The CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, stated this in Abuja on Monday, adding that a circular issued by the bank on January 10, 2024, was being recirculated as though it was freshly issued.
The CBN reassured the banking public of the safety of their money and the resilience of the banking system, emphasizing that Heritage Bank’s case was isolated and that allegations of further revocation of licenses were mere fabrications aimed at creating panic.
The CBN urged the public to continue their regular banking activities without concern and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of the banking system.
“Customers are, therefore, encouraged to proceed with their transactions as usual, as the CBN is committed to ensuring the safety of the banking system.”
