Uganda Revenue Authority CG, John Rujoki has emerged as Public Sector Global CEO of the Week
The Commissioner-General (CG) of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), John Musinguzi Rujoki has emerged as one of the top three Public Sector Global ‘CEOs of the week’.
Rujoki is a seasoned mathematician and corporate executive who has been serving as the CG since April 2020. He has a strong educational background in Mathematics Computing and Information Systems, adding to his wealth of expertise in his roles.
Throughout his career, Rujoki has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to combating fraud and corruption. As head of the finance and audit department of the Special Revenue Protection Services (SRPS), he played a key role in wiping out smuggling at Ugandan borders.
As Commissioner-General of URA, he has continued to drive progress, establishing an anti-money laundering unit that has recovered millions of dollars and implementing the Single Customs Territory (SCT) policy to streamline customs procedures.
Under Rujoki’s leadership, URA has achieved outstanding revenue growth, with a surplus of UGX 57.48 billion in 2022/23 and a revenue growth of 16.40 per cent compared to previous years. His efforts have also led to the implementation of various processes to reduce the cost of doing business, including the clearance of intra-region trade cargo and maritime cargo through SCT processes.
In addition to his role at URA, Rujoki serves as Chairman of the board of the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) and as a senior advisor on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to the President of Uganda.

Kenya Airways MD, Allan Kilavuka has emerged as Public Sector Global CEO of the Week
The Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive of Kenya Airways, Mr. Allan Kilavuka has emerged as one of the top three Public Sector Global ‘CEOs of the week’.
The Managing Director and CEO, a role he has held since April 2020. With a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology from the University of Liverpool, his academic background is solid. He further honed his skills at GE’s Crotonville Leadership Institute in New York, focusing on Executive Leadership, Advanced Management, and Financial Planning. Allan is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Allan began his career at Deloitte East Africa in Nairobi, where he specialized in Audit, Accounting, Outsourcing, and Custodianship. He later joined GE, where he held various senior leadership roles in Kenya and South Africa, including notable contributions to GE Power Services Africa and GE Industrial Solutions.
His tenure at Jambojet Limited, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways PLC, as CEO and Managing Director, set the stage for his current leadership role. Allan’s transition to Kenya Airways came at a challenging time for the aviation industry, following Sebastian Mikosz’s departure on 31 December 2019. Since then, Allan has implemented strategic measures to navigate the airline through turbulent times, leveraging his 23 years of experience in leadership, management, financial planning, and change management. His extensive knowledge of the African business environment has been crucial in maintaining Kenya Airways’ operations during a period of significant industry disruption.
In response to growing demand for travel between East and Southern Africa, the agency has launched a brand-new route connecting Nairobi directly to the vibrant city of Maputo, Mozambique. This exciting expansion takes flight from 14th June 2024, further solidifying KQ’s commitment to strengthening its network and offering seamless travel experiences across the continent.
The agency under the leadership Kilavuka alsobin February 2024 renewed its 12-year-long codeshare agreement with Vietnam’s flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines (VA). This follows the resumption of KQ’s scheduled flights to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) in Thailand.
In the same month, the agency further signed a code-sharing agreement with Spain’s third-largest airline, Air Europa amid a resurgence in demand for air travel. This signed codeshare partnership allows passengers to reach many global destinations served by the route networks of both carriers.

Air Botswana MD, Lulu Rasebotsa has emerged as Public Sector Global CEO of the Week
The Managing Director (MD) of Air Botswana, Ms. Lulu Rasebotsa has emerged one of the top three Public Sector Global ‘CEOs of the week’.
Ms. Lulu Rasebotsa, currently serving as the General Manager of Air Botswana, assumed her position in December 2023 and has since made major strides advancing the national carrier.
In February 2024, she successfully secured BWP121.2 million (USD8.8 million) in development expenditure from the government of Botswana for the 2024-2025 budget. This substantial funding highlights her ability to negotiate and advocate effectively for the airline’s growth.
Demonstrating her commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement, Rasebotsa organized a comprehensive media meeting in May 2024. This initiative seeks to foster better relationships with digital, print, and broadcast media, ensuring the public received accurate and reliable information on respective developments.
Under her leadership, Air Botswana has fully paid for three new Embraer aircraft as of May 2024, a move to address delays and enhance operational efficiency. The specifics of when these aircraft will commence operations are yet to announced.
Ms. Rasebotsa’s extensive background spans over 25 years in the financial services industry, with roles in underwriting, brokering, and pension fund administration in both Botswana and South Africa. Her leadership credentials are further solidified by her tenure as the first female CEO of Bidvest Life in South Africa. She holds positions on the boards of the Sir Ketumile Masire Foundation and the Industrial Advisory Board of BIUST.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Lulu is a passionate entrepreneur and mentor, dedicated to nurturing young talent through her initiative, “Convos with MsLu.” Her guiding philosophy, encapsulated in her favorite quote, “Life is not a dress rehearsal,” reflects her proactive and impactful approach to both her career and personal endeavors.
