The Port of Mombasa has welcomed MV Jolly Giada on a maiden voyage to offload a total of 2000 TEUs comprising both local and transshipment cargo.
35 percent of the 2000 TEUs offloaded from the MV Giada is bound for Dar-es-Salaam as transshipment cargo.
This marks the third vessel to dock at the port under Messina’s full container vessel service, introduced late last year, as the company previously operated Ro-Ro vessels.
Mombasa has observed a rise in the number of initial calls to the port, with the growth credited to operational efficiency improvements that have led to decreased ship waiting times.
For instance, with the recent installation of new ship-to-shore gantry cranes at berth 16, where MV Giada is currently docked, the vessel will complete discharging within 24 hours and proceed to her next destination.
This is the sixth vessel making its first call to the Port of Mombasa since the beginning of the year, indicating increased port connectivity and enhanced business prospects.
