The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), in collaboration with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Takoradi Container Terminal Limited (TACOTEL) has organised a sensitisation forum for members of the Joint Association of Port Transport Union (JAPTU) – Takoradi Chapter on Truck Loading Advice (TLA).
The seminar held on 21st November 2023 at TACOTEL, aimed to increase awareness and enhance efficiency in loading operations whilst transporting goods from the Takoradi Port.
The event brought together members of JAPTU – Takoradi Chapter, Freight Forwarders, Customs Brokers Association of Ghana (CUBAG), and other key stakeholders in the cargo value chain in Takoradi.
The Executive Secretary for JAPTU, Alhaji Musah Ibrahim guided participants on the modalities forthe implementation of TLA at the Takoradi Port. The outlined areas focused on leveraging technology, ensuring compliance, and prioritizing safety throughout the cargo loading process.
The forum follows the recent reorganization of members from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (G.P.R.T.U) and the Ghana Haulage Truck Drivers Association (G.H.T.D.A)to the Joint Association of Port Transport Unions (JAPTU). This strategic initiative aims to professionalise the trucking sector within the Takoradi Port Supply Chain. The primary objectives are to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in cargo delivery operations and to facilitate accountability among truck drivers and owners in the cargo value chain.
The Truck drivers emphasized the need for training opportunities that would allow them to become acquainted with the TLA system, its functionalities, and the total navigation of the digital platform. Participants were entreated to provide feedback on their experiences with the TLA system and clarification on mechanisms for improvement based on user input.
The facilitators addressed concerns raised and encouraged participants to seek real time assistance from the Shipper Complaints and Support Units (SCSU) situated at the various entry points across the country.
