Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko has instructed the Treasury Registrar in the country to ask public organizations to provide an explanation as to why they did not participate in the SHIMMUTA games for the year 2023.
Speaking at the opening of the games today (17/11/2023) in Dodoma, Mr. Dr. Biteko said that it is surprising to see that we have 248 public organizations in the country but only 54 participated.
“I instruct the Treasury Registrar to write to all organizations that did not participate in these games to tell us why they did not participate and I want to get answers to these questions on Tuesday (21/11/2023),” he instructed the Hon. Dr. Biteko.
In addition, he has instructed the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports to write a letter to the Secretaries General of the Ministries whose Institutions have not participated in the games, to explain why they have not sent employees to the competition and he will advise the Heads of State, the steps to take.
Likewise, he has directed all public organizations that are required to join SHIMMUTA to do so.
For this year 2023, the games have gone with the motto of the Games is Health and Economy: Invest in Sports Infrastructure for Good Health and a Sustainable Economy! Let the Work Continue.
Various leaders who attended the Opening Ceremony include Hon. Hamisi Mwinjuma, Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, Secretary General Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports, Rosemary Senyamule, Head of Dodoma Region and Roselyne Massam Chairman of SHIMMUTA.
The competition was started by the Government of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere in 1967 where currently its patron is the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency, Dr. Philip Isdory Mpango.
