Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, and Inspector General Japhet Koome has briefed the joint National Assembly and Senate Committees on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations about Kenya’s upcoming Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti.
The mission aims to deploy 1000 National Police Service (NPS) officers to support the Haitian National Police in capacity building and maintaining law and order.
During the session on November 8, 2023, CS Kindiki assured the committee, led by Hon. Tongoyo and co-chaired by Hon. William Cheptumo, that the deployment of NPS Officers would strictly adhere to legal frameworks.
IG Koome emphasized that the mission would not compromise the security of Kenya, highlighting the country’s strong reputation and experience in UN and AU Peacekeeping efforts.
CS Kindiki further clarified that the one-year deployment, subject to periodic reviews, would be funded by UN Member States, alleviating concerns about the financial burden on Kenya.
