The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced its successful connection of 60,000 customers within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) to state-of-the-art smart water meters.
Giving his address at the GWCL’s second edition of the “accounting to our customers” press briefing and exhibition, Managing Director Dr. Clifford A Braimah highlighted that this major upgrade allows company officials to remotely monitor water meter readings.
This not only eases the conventional practice of visiting individual homes but also actively targets billing discrepancies.
Dr. Braimah emphasized the company’s commitment to enhanced service delivery, referencing the introduction of an efficient electronic billing system.
The MD expressed pride in the consistent growth of GWCL’s customer base, with figures indicating a projected year-end total of 939,000 customers – a commendable six per cent increase from the prior year.
He credited this surge to the firm’s dedicated customer engagement, high service quality, economic development initiatives, and strategic partnerships.
The introduction of electronic billing has significantly amplified GWCL’s revenue collection, noting an impressive monthly average of GH¢16.9 million from over 86,000 electronic transactions as of August 2023.
Dr. Braimah projects the company’s electronic payments revenue to hit a remarkable GH¢203 million by the close of the year. He also shed light on the company’s undying efforts towards maintaining water quality standards, including regular quality monitoring and the deployment of superior water treatment chemicals.
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Freda Prempeh, applauded the GWCL’s unwavering dedication to enhancing its service quality and took the opportunity to appeal to the public to safeguard water resources.
