The Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government has successfully identified the key orchestrators and planners behind the ongoing violence in the region.
This revelation comes as a response to a surge in attacks over recent months, resulting in numerous fatalities and widespread public concern.
Speaking during a press conference in Kiambu on Sunday, CS Kindiki declared a commitment to bringing those responsible to justice, emphasizing that individuals who exploit religion and historical grievances as justifications for violence will face the full force of the law.
In an effort to restore stability to the area and bolster the nation’s economy, Kindiki announced that the government will release a list of suspects linked to the Lamu insecurity this week, urging them to voluntarily surrender at the nearest police station. The Interior CS also emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering a safe and secure environment for both local and international investors and vowed to crack down on criminal elements exploiting culture for illicit activities.
In response to criminal elements abusing culture to commit crimes, CS Kindiki reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding cultural values while holding wrongdoers accountable. He stressed that the constitution respects collective culture but will not tolerate its manipulation for criminal purposes.
“The constitution recognises and respects our collective culture. However, we will not allow criminals to use culture to brutalise people and mislead them through retrogressive activities,” he said.
Kindiki directed security officers in Kiambu and Murang’a Counties to take immediate action by closing down any premises used by criminals hiding behind cultural pretenses to commit crimes. Once investigations are completed, the culprits will be prosecuted in accordance with the law, the Interior CS assured.
