The inaugural Africa Climate Summit commenced at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya, and is set to run until September 8, 2023.
The summit, chaired by President William Ruto, aims to address the escalating impacts of climate change, particularly within the African continent.
Over 20 African heads of state, including Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo, have already gathered for this critical event, with more world leaders expected to arrive in the coming days.
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua welcomed President Nana Akufo-Addo at JKIA, symbolizing the significance of this gathering in the global fight against climate change.
The Africa Climate Summit serves as a pivotal platform for discussions, commitments, and the development of the Nairobi Declaration, all aimed at tackling climate change’s multifaceted challenges on both a global and African scale. Prominent figures such as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the Senior Managing Director of the World Bank, Axel van Trotsenburg, are among the distinguished attendees.
