In a colorful celebration at the fully packed Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, President Samia Suluhu Hassan reiterated the government’s commitment to embracing sports as a vital factor in fostering national unity.
Speaking during the Simba Day celebration, the President emphasized the significance of sports in uniting Tanzanians and promoting a nation of peace, love, and solidarity.
She applauded Simba for supporting the recently released Royal Tour film by taking their new kits to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in a famous red bag, symbolically named ‘kibegi.’
President Samia also praised the football club for their various charitable activities during ‘Simba Week,’ which included providing support to orphans and contributing to medical facilities.
The President further highlighted that sports have always played a pivotal role in uniting the diverse Tanzanian society, breaking down barriers of prejudice and ethnicity.
She commended the historical use of football clubs like Simba and Young Africans during the struggle for independence, underlining their contribution to cementing the fraternity and friendship between the people of mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Additionally, she praised Simba for their creativity in promoting tourism by unveiling their new jerseys at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which significantly boosted the country’s tourism and added value to the recently launched Royal Tour film.
