The Cabinet Secretary of Interior and National Administration, Kithure Kindiki has travelled to Malindi, Kilifi County, to oversee the commencement of the second phase of exhumation of bodies at the Shakahola forest.
The exercise had been called off previously due to adverse weather conditions. Post-mortem examinations on the 112 bodies that had been exhumed or recovered from the forest have been concluded.
The search and rescue operations for persons suspected to be holed up in the thickets and bushes are still ongoing.
The exhumation exercise follows the discovery of a mass grave in the Shakahola forest, where 112 bodies have been exhumed or recovered so far.
The Cabinet Secretary’s visit to the forest marks a new chapter in the investigation of the case, which has gripped the country in shock and disbelief.
