South African Stock Exchange; Johannesburg Stock Exchange has emerged as Africa Public Sector Magazine’s “CEO of the Week” for the end of May to 4th of June, 2022 rankings.
The highly-rated CEO of the Week is a weekly accreditation of Top performing CEOs of Public institutions, MDAs of African governments, following their achievements and portfolios amongst other criteria for the best in performances and developments.
Following this week review, the vibrant and award winning, public speaker, an Economist, Dr Leila Fourie is the Group CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), the largest stock exchange on the African continent. A role she has held for over two successful years.
Dr Fourie is responsible for the development and execution of the JSE’s corporate strategy by ensuring that the JSE remains a competitive stock exchange and a platform for growth and access to capital.
She has her business career which spans more than 20 years working in consulting, investment banking, retail banking & capital markets. Her diverse experience has been acquired in some of South Africa’s leading companies in these fields, including Accenture, Standard Bank & the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Through the course of her career, Leila has held senior executive positions & directorships of global portfolios, local boards & US boards.
She worked as the Vice President for ESA Economic Society Australia NSW Council for two years before climbing the ladder at commonwealth bank and then lifeline Australia for almost 2 years. Over the course of her career, Leila has gained experience in turnarounds; set up of two new Greenfields organisations; established new global and local divisions within a multi-national organisation; launched new products; established and closed down joint ventures; advocated on national policy matters; and maintained existing revenue producing and support functions.
The Brilliant and intellectual woman has a PhD in Economic and Financial Sciences and won the Economic Society South Africa Founders’ award in 2012 for best Masters Economics thesis in the country. Leila has published several articles in academic journals and actively advocates for policy development in various sectors.
